Nasi Bakmoy - Soto Kudus

Unique taste of soto, a nice combination between Javanese and chinese food at Rp 5,000 per portion. Don't expect a lunch portion, as the bowl is not much bigger a chinese rice bowl. Located at Jalan Asem Gede somewhere near Tugu Jogja.

Jejamuran - Mushroom restaurant

Never thought vegetarian food could be so good and so tasty like those served at Jejamuran. If you do a blind test, I bet you can't tell which one is real gulai kambing and gulai jamur. Or sate ayam and sate jamur. Or fried squid to fried mushroom.

Well recommended for vegetarian especially with their price tags.

Bakmi Pele - Alun alun

One of few warung kaki lima that is famous even outside of Jogja. There are probably thousands of warung bakmi in the city that serve the same food, open at the same or similar spot.. How one like bakmi Pele could be so famous?

It takes many years to build a good name/brand. With all mostly don'ts learned from their parents. (Pantangan; unwritten rules without clear reasons, similar to religion. Now we know these unwritten rules as SOP or standard operating procedure.

What is it? Never close the shop unless really necessary (avaibility). Never change the recipe. (Maintain standard taste). Never move to other location or never open a new branch. (There was no email or internet to distribute the information, so better don't do it..)

Kepiting Dogen with Hyatt gang

November Arisan was held at Kepiting Dogen. Eating crab is an attraction by itself, especially in a group of funny-uniquely-crazy people like our managers.. Tonight's menu consists of crab with different sauces, fish and prawn. Traditional drink was also a favorite for everybody.

On the picture is ayam bakar, ati ampla, tahu dan tempe. Add the manis total bill was only rp 19,000. This place is meant for students and teenagers. Food is good but not special. Good value for money..

When all rooms include breakfast, it could become a huge production for the kitchen team. Plus usually the guests come at about the same time that cripple the service.
We can't avoid all those challenges, but what we should maintain at all cost is the taste. One thing that we can't afford to loose.

Stand for Gladag Langen Bogan Solo, a massive one kilometer well arranged food stalls. With hundreds kind of food available you could actually get lost in sea of choices. Mie Mbah Mo - Bantul

I guess everybody heard about mi mbah Mo. You can't call yourself a culinary enthusiast if you haven't tried this special traditional noodle. Its quiet far from Jogja city that even my GPS could not locate it. I had to ask for direction as the GPS shows me a dead end. You have to go to a small non-asphalt village road that goes through people backyard..

But the taste compensate it all.. Including a no-smile and super slow service :)

Warung Sate Palagan

Warung Sate yang enak mostly sumpek, smokey and dark. Sate presentation is always the same everywhere, simply because there is no presentation involved.

Warung Sate Palagan comes with different concept and want to change warung sate image. A spacious restaurant with lots of parking space, has more than enough staff ready to serve you. Big sized Sate is served in a burning hot plate and peanut sauce is on another plate.. Nice.

Priced starts from rp 18,000 to rp 24,000 for imported meat..

How do people judge a good restaurant compared to the others? A hundred possible answers end up in one simple way; by comparing basic stuff..
How do the restaurant do their Nasi Goreng? Or Orange Juice. Both in taste and presentation compare to price they pay. This is not an exact calculation but more to how they 'feel' about the whole thing.
Whatever the initial score is, that will stay almost forever.. They say we can do only one time first impression.

Great your next customer like they are your loyal customer for many years and observe the result..

It against my diet plan. Unless if I want to forget about having a flat abs. For the second time I can't resist myself from having another bowl of rice.
The combination of rib and soup is just too good to be true, for that price! I can only think it takes them hours to boil the meat so it become that tender, and tasty..
I will go there again.. Tomorrow..

But I still drive from Denpasar to Ubud for one hour for the ribs..

Iga Bakar Sapi Bali

"Iga sapi bumbu bali yang pertama didunia empuknya dijamin, rasa...surga"
that's written on the menu, and its absolutely true! (about the taste! Not sure about the first one in the world.. :)
Rp 32,000 you will get a big two-ribs steak, yet you will want more because its so yummy. It comes with a bowl of Balinese soup that compliments the great taste of the ribs... Tonight, I requested another bowl of rice, o oh that against my diet... damned ribs..

Bakmi Kadin

The name came from bakmi KArto kasiDIN, located near melia purosani hotel.
No need to explain why this place is so famous for so many years. Its a big place compared to others but always busy, it has at least 30 tables or 150seats. Rp 17,000 per portion.
If you haven't been there, you simply should.

Kepiting Dogen

If you want to make your family happy by taking them for a nice dinner without emptying your pocket, go to Kepiting Dogen at jl Palagan. My favorite is kepiting bumbu Buldog, which is so so tasty and deliciously hot. Don't forget to order roti mantau and dip it in the sauce.. Pingsan. One portion (in the picture) consists of two big crab usually enough for two person. If its not enough, blame it on the sauce..

Rp 60,000 is definitely worth what you get.

Soto pak Soleh

The location is strategic just in front of Monjali, which I think is the main selling factor. The Soto is just a soto, its not istemewa or unique. Soto priced at rp 9,000 and the meat served on the other plate is rp 9,000per piece. So you could spend rp 36,000 for soto with 3pieces of meat.

Soto Pak Narto Kaliurang

The place always pack because every thing here is so good and cheap. Well they have only bakso at rp 5,000, soto at rp 5,000 and soto bakso at rp 7,000. If you are a bakso lover, this place is a heaven.

Ayam Ijo masak pedas Manado ala ibu Ineke

Cooked with love and tons of green chilly, it makes you can't stop eating it.. Its so Manado and so good. This ayam was sent from Surabaya to Jakarta, then I brought it back to Yogyakarta. Thank you ibu Ineke.
